A little over a year ago, Judy Melton, Maricharles Ledsinger, Charlotte Moore and Janice Jones had an idea.
The work was now complete on our kitchen and new area, and these women wanted to use this facility to better serve the lives of those in our Community and surrounding area.
Thus was born the Second Saturday Soup Meal.
One year ago this month we cooked our first meal for 9 visitors. We had a devotional and prayer. We thanked those who visited with us on this special occasion.
At first we were strangers to them and they were strangers to us. As time progressed the number of visitors continued to increase. As Christians we ourselves were drawn closer together.
Many began to share with us their needs, their hurts, their problems and their laughter, and as Christians we began to fill these needs as best as we could.
This month (February 2008) a year later we had 97 visitors, a devotional, a prayer and a hot meal.
On behalf of the Eldership, we want you to know that God is truly blessing this work.
We have a multitude of people that help to prepare this meal each month, those that prepare the tea and bring it in to us, to our teens and young ones who fill our take home sacks. God Bless each and every one of you.
The Bible says in Matthew 25: 35 – 40, “For I was an hungred, and you gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked and clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we the an hungered, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a strange, and took thee in? or naked and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”.
We live in a time when the Lord’s Church is referred to by many as a cult or simply out dated. It is refreshing for us to be involved in a work which can touch the lives of so many.
Again, may God Bless you.
